COURSE OUTLINE

ATTITUDE/BEHAVIOR:
You are expected to act appropriately in class at all times. Speak correctly, use proper language, and treat each other with respect. Please treat the classroom with respect as well.

ATTENDANCE:
Unless you are LEGALLY absent from school, you are expected to be in class. It is your job to be in class (seated & ready to work) when the bell rings. School policy on lateness and absence will be STRICTLY enforced. After five absences you may receive and incomplete assignment.

CLASSWORK:
Since a large portion of your grade will come from work done in class, it is important to submit all assignments. Most class assignments will be graded according to the grading scale. Projects and tests will be graded differently.

PARTICIPATION:
Class participation is a major part of your success in the course. Participation will count as a portion of your grade for the marking period.

HOMEWORK:
Homework will be assigned on an as need basis. It is your responsibility to hand in homework on time. If you are legally absent, your homework is due the day you return.

MAKE-UP WORK:
If you are out of class, it is your responsibility to make up all work. Be sure that you check the day you return for any materials/assignments that you missed.

All make-up work is due the following day, after you receive that assignment. Failure to submit or make-up any missed work will affect your grade. Class cuts will result be recorded as an “F” for the day. You may not make up any work/test on a day that you have cut.

NO LATE WORK WILL BE ACCEPTED, UNLESS YOU ARE LEGALLY ABSENT

STUDENT REQUESTS FOR SCHEDULE CHANGES:
A student’s selection of specific courses involves a commitment to those subjects. It also involves factors such as staffing and classroom usage that have cost implications. Consequently, a student should consider withdrawing from a course only for the most serious academic and personal reasons. It is necessary for students considering a schedule change to consult with their parent/guardian, teacher and guidance counselor. The procedure that students must follow to request a schedule change is outlined in the Student Agenda. “Student Request for Schedule Change” forms will be available in the Counseling Center after the first ten school days of the start of the school year for FULL YEAR and SEMESTER 1 courses, and after the first five school days of the start of the second semester for SEMESTER 2 courses.

EXAMS/QUIZZES:
Tests and quizzes will always be announced and given according to material covered in class. There will never be a pop-quiz or surprise information on an exam. If you miss a test you have 3 days from the day you return to complete the test, otherwise a grade of an “F” will be assigned. Exams and projects will be weighted more heavily than quizzes and classwork.

GRADING:
Your quarterly grade is calculated by averaging the following:
 Classwork/Homework/Projects 40%
 Tests/Quizzes 40%
 Class Participation 20%

Grading Scale: A+ A A- B+ B B- C+ C C- D+ D F

EXTRA HELP:
I will be available after school on Tuesdays, or by appointment, or during some periods during the day for those who need extra help. During non-teaching periods I can be found in the Business Education Office. Please do not hesitate to ask or wait until you feel overwhelmed to speak with me.
