Welcome to Sports Marketing!

Would you like to be a part of one of the fastest growing college majors and one of the most exciting and lucrative industries of the future?

This course is designed for students with an interest in the sports industry and its related careers. Basic marketing principles will be studied and applied through projects and using Internet simulations. Guest speakers, as well as potential field trips will broaden classroom learning. The students will actively use their skills to promote sporting events both on campus and within the community.

Marketing is the tool that has allowed the United States economy to be one of the most successful in the world. Sports and entertainment are important parts of our modern economy. Fans and companies spend billions of dollars each year on sports. Entertainment is one of the largest exports from the United States to the rest of the world.

Utilizing the specific environments of the sports and entertainment industries, this half-year course will introduce students to individual marketing components and the important part that marketing plays in our economic system. Through the use of Internet simulations, students will learn sports economics, event promotion, merchandising, packaging, and product marketing. Several relevant enrichment opportunities, which will enhance learning through participation, are planned.
